Choosing an R-ValueHow to determine which is right for you

R – Value

The amount of insulation a material provides is measured by its R-value. R-values can help you decide which type of insulation material to use, and how thick it should be. It's the measure of how well it can reduce the flow of warm and cold air into and out of your home or business

The higher the number in R- value, the more effective the insulation is. Houses built before the 1970's probably have an R-value of 11 or less, but today's standards for R-values can be as high as 38 or more. To achieve the highest possible R-value, you must insulate properly to use less energy. Less energy means more savings.
